Animating Drama: Bringing Real Human Emotion To Life
At the PANEURAMA AAD Innovation Lab in August, nineteen talented animation professionals from across Europe came together to explore the depths of emotional storytelling through animation. Under the guidance of Alexis Wanneroy, Head of Character Animation at Fortiche Production, participants embarked on a two-week innovation lab that dove deeply into the art of drama, character, and realistic acting in animation.
Our innovation lab participants set out to develop a production that would capture the subtleties of real human emotion. Through meticulous mentoring from Alexis, they honed their skills in replicating intense, emotionally charged scenes that convey drama in its most authentic form.
These scenes demonstrate the power of animation to not only mimic real-life acting but to bring out even more nuance and expressiveness, intensifying the audience’s connection to the characters.
In the video below, you’ll see a side-by-side comparison: on one side, the final animated production after two weeks of refining, and on the other, the raw reference shots and major keyframes. From early blocking stages to the polished finish, this project exemplifies how utilizing references and acting techniques can transform into a dramatic, captivating experience.
We’re excited to share the participants’ production! These talented animators have shown what’s possible when deep storytelling meets animation.
